FAQ
- What is the Altersvorsorgedepot?
- From 1 January 2027, Germany replaces new Riester contracts with subsidized retirement depot products. You invest in certified funds, receive state allowances on top of your contributions, and pay tax on subsidized portions when you draw income in retirement.
- How is the Grundzulage calculated?
- You need at least €120 per year in personal contributions. On the first €360 you receive 50% as Grundzulage. From €360.01 to €1,800 you receive 25% per euro. The maximum basic allowance is €540 at €1,800 of personal savings. Extra contributions up to €6,840 are allowed but not subsidized.
- Who gets the €200 Berufseinsteigerbonus?
- A one-time €200 is added to your Grundzulage in the year you qualify if you have not yet turned 25 at the start of that contribution year, you meet the €120 minimum, and you have not received the bonus before.
- How does the Kinderzulage work?
- For each child with Kindergeld assigned to you, you receive 100% of your personal contribution as Kinderzulage, up to €300 per child per year (reached at €25/month). Married parents can transfer the allowance to the other spouse.
- What about the 2029 rate increase I read elsewhere?
- Early drafts proposed raising the first-tier rate from 30% to 35% in 2029. Parliament replaced that formula entirely. The enacted law uses 50% on the first €360 and 25% up to €1,800 with no scheduled 2029 step-up. Always check the current BMF FAQ and BGBl. 2026 I Nr. 156.
- Is Frühstartrente the same thing?
- No. Frühstartrente is a separate proposal for state €10/month contributions into a child's depot from age 6 to 18. As of August 2026 it was still in the legislative process and is not part of this enacted adult subsidy calculator.
- What if I already have Riester?
- Contracts signed before 2027 keep old rules unless you irrevocably switch to the new subsidy formula, make the contract dormant and open a new product, or transfer to a new depot. This calculator models the new system from 2027 onward.
